-I want to start blogging for fun and also for a bit of money making. I have obviously Googled the subject as that's how i usually get my answers, but for some reason I'm having trouble getting the answers I'm trying to find about blogging.
I was thinking about using my blogs to help people with random things I know about. For instance, I've built a computer, so I could write about how to go about doing that, or I play guitar, I could write helpful basics such as scales or tunings. I skate so i could write about how to start or do a heelflip or something simple.
BUT my question is, after i write about those few things that I'm good at or know about, then what the heck do i write about? I don't want to write about boring daily things, I want to help other people with things i know about, but that only goes so far.. and the sites that I have read say to just keep writing about the same topic or whatever, some even say to write a few blogs a day. But I just don't know enough information for that type of writing.
And lastly, I was supposing that I would make my little bits of money by putting up ads about what I talked about (and later doing affiliate stuff), but does that actually work?I'm going to make a few suggestions.
First, Mildred's suggestions is based on the fact that blogging and making money are big ticket items. Someone will try and sell you something on how to blog and make money. They are all over the place. Some are actually good, but at the start, I'd recommend just going the free route. Basically, there is enough free information out there to keep you going.
Next, seeing that you've got a lot of things you want to write about, you can always consider having multiple niche blogs. Basically, you write one blog, write a bunch of articles on the subject, but you don't plan on keeping it updated all the time. The idea is to focus on a very specific topic and cover it. In your case, building a computer, playing a guitar, and skating.
You can also build a blog around videos, too. A blog on skating, with videos showing the trick would be good. You could even build up your own product. Something like an e-book "Basics of skating" or "How to do a heelflip."
Affiliate and ad stuff does work. However, it does require effort. There is a strong push in the IM industry to focus on quality content, and pushing the spam producers out. Focus on developing a good blog with focused content, apply honest, white hat SEO techniques, and you can make money.
There is a lot more information. I'm going to suggest to places to do a follow up on:
